The Wordpress Dashboard

The Wordpress Dashboard is accessible via the URL http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin or http://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin.  You enter your username and password (the ones provided by Wordpress, not the ones provided by your hosting company like Hostgator) in the opening screen (see last part of the video on “Wordpress Installation”).  You can change your password inside the dashboard itself.

The Dashboard is your back-end office where you can create posts, pages, add plugins and widgets.  Plugins are additional scripts that add more functionality to your Wordpress blog.  For instance, you can have a comments section or a sitemap (for the search engines to decipher what your blog is about), these can be added using plugins.  Widgets are additional layout features to add to your blog.  For instance you could have a blogroll or a tag cloud of your keywords.  These are widgets and they are normally added somewhere on the right or left sidebars.

This video gives you an overview of the front page of your Wordpress dashboard.
